Oak
Ridge National Laboratory is pleased to announce the inaugural
competition for CNMS (Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences)
Research Scholar awards. The CNMS Research Scholar program will
provide a limited number of competitive awards to outstanding graduate
students and postdoctoral researchers, for research carried out
at ORNL that will advance user research facilities/capabilities.
These merit-based awards are intended to encourage contributions
by outstanding young researchers in areas of special importance
to the CNMS and the national nanoscience community. The amount
of each award will be in the range of $3,000-$4,000, depending
upon the number of highly qualified applicants.
Any graduate student or postdoctoral research participant in an already-approved
CNMS user research project at ORNL who is in good standing at his/her university
is eligible to apply for one of these awards with the recommendation of the
project Principal Investigator (PI). Selection will be made on the basis of
demonstrated academic merit and research performance as well as the anticipated
value of the contribution to developing user research capabilities. A
maximum of one award will be made per year per research project.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION
All complete applications arriving on or before March 22, 2004 will
be sure to receive full consideration. Applications received after March 22
will be considered only to the extent that budgeted funds remain available.
