2008
JOINT USER MEETING
of
the
CENTER
FOR NANOPHASE MATERIALS SCIENCES
and the
SHARED RESEARCH
EQUIPMENT USER FACILITY
September 24-26, 2008
Oak Ridge National Laboratory
Oak Ridge, Tennessee
The Center
for Nanophase Materials Sciences (CNMS) and the Shared
Research Equipment User Facility (SHaRE) at Oak Ridge National
Laboratory will hold their 2008 annual user meetings jointly
on September 24-26, 2008, Wednesday Noon through Friday Noon,
at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
The
annual user meeting combines oral presentations, poster sessions,
tours, workshops and tutorials into a compact program
designed to illuminate the frontiers of nanoscience research
and acquaint researchers with the scientific resources for nanoscience
and advanced electron microscopy that these two user facilities
offer to them. A final agenda is
now available.
The 2008 Joint CNMS and SHaRE User Meeting will feature:
- Invited
lectures by
facility users and other international research leaders presenting
their visions of research challenges
and opportunities in nanoscience and microscopic imaging.
A partial list of speakers includes: Prof. Greg Baker (Michigan
State University), Prof. Frank Bates (University of Minnesota),
Dr. Albina Borisevich (Oak Ridge National Laboratory), Prof.
David Bucknall (Georgia Tech), Prof. Roberto
Car (Princeton
University), Prof. Bryan Eichhorn (University of Maryland), Prof.
Sylvija Gradecak (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), Dr.
Ronald Jones (NIST), Prof. Jie Liu (Duke University),
Prof. Murugappan Muthukumar (University of Massachusetts), Dr.
Steven Randolph (FEI Company), Prof. Michael
Strano (Massachusetts
Institute of Technology), Prof. Yayoi Takamura (University
of California, Davis), Dr. Masashi Watanabe (Lawrence Berkeley
National Laboratory), and Prof. Leor Weinberger (University
of California, San Diego).
- User
Research Posters. Current facility users and prospective
users will present results of their research and share
their experiences at the user facilities. The User Poster Session on
Wednesday evening will provide a great opportunity for
grad students and postdocs to present and discuss their research with colleagues.
- CNMS
Open House (Wednesday morning) and SHaRE
Facility Tour (Friday afternoon) will provide introductions to the capabilities
and expertise at these two user facilities.
- Workshops
and Tutorials:
- The
RidgeDance
NanoScience Film Festival will
be back by popular demand on Thursday evening, September
25. Attendees
are invited to submit video clips or still images of their work. Contact
Chris
Rouleau or
Peter
Cummings for additional information.
- Complete
information on how to become a user at either user facility.
- User
Proposal Planning- Ample opportunity to meet with facility
staff and other researchers to discuss and
plan for submission of user proposals to either or both facilities.
- User
Group business meetings for the CNMS Users Group and SHaRE
Users Group will provide opportunities for
the user communities at-large to provide input on planning and future developments
at both facilities.
Advance
Registration is
required to attend this user meeting because of
access control at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, a U.S. Department
of Energy facility. On-site registration will not be available.
All attendees are required to register and provide their
name,
affiliation, and contact information. Those
without an ORNL badge will also be asked for your date and place
of birth and citizenship.
Access
to ORNL is for the purpose of attending this user meeting only
and does not enable access to other ORNL facilities or laboratories.
Access to ORNL requires
photo identification; foreign nationals will need to bring
their
valid passport and
visa.
The
Joint CNMS and SHaRE User Meeting is open to the public. The
CNMS and SHaRE user facilities are supported by the U.S. Department
of Energy’s Office of Basic Energy Sciences to provide
specialized instrumentation and expertise to researchers from
universities, national laboratories, and industry that enables
them to conduct forefront research that would otherwise not
be possible with resources at their home institutions.
We
hope to see you here in September! |
